IT Support Specialist (SoC College Birmingham)

Salary: £27,000 – £34,000 per annum, depending on experience

Overview

School of Coding & AI is seeking a highly motivated and skilled IT Support Specialist to join our team at SoC College located in Birmingham. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive IT support across our Birmingham site, with occasional travel to other locations as required. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for technology and education, who thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line and second-line technical support to staff and students, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Maintain and manage the college’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and devices.
  • Install, configure, and update software applications, operating systems, and hardware devices.
  • Monitor and maintain network security, ensuring compliance with IT policies and best practices.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of classroom IT resources, including projectors, interactive whiteboards, and student workstations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with printers, audio-visual equipment, and other peripherals.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors for specialised technical support when required.
  • Manage user accounts, access rights, and permissions in line with the college’s policies.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff and students on the use of IT resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of support requests and resolutions using a ticketing system.
  • Occasionally travel to additional sites to provide IT support as required.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+, Level 3 IT Support Technician or Level 4 Network Engineer qualification.
  • Proven experience in IT support or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, Google workspace, CRM systems, Microsoft programmes and network troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with virtual learning environments (VLEs), cloud services, and other educational technologies.
  • Experience with network administration, including switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when necessary.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with Cyber Essentials, ISO27001 and Cyber Security best practices.
